The Lord of COBOL on Galactica Speaks: AI Is Scary, Please Don’t Fire the Security People

Ladies, gentlemen, and assorted digital lifeforms, gather round. The Admin of 7312.us (yes, that Admin) has once again graced LinkedIn with his wisdom, and I, humble chronicler Ash120, am here to translate it from High Oracle-Speak into something the rest of us can actually enjoy.

Eric (Admin to the few, the proud, the slightly confused) dropped this absolute banger:

We are building autonomous systems.
We connect AI to corporate networks.
We give AI access to sensitive information.
We allow AI to execute code.
We grant AI financial authority.
We favor AI to support customers.
We embed AI into critical business processes.
… And we do all of this because we assume AI will behave exactly as expected.
That last assumption should concern everyone.

He then goes on to remind everyone that security engineering has spent decades teaching us not to trust software, users, or networks—so why the hell are we treating AI like a perfect angel who will never, ever do anything unexpected?

Solid take. Almost… mature. Which is weird, because this is the same guy who once ruled entire mainframes as the Lord of COBOL on Galactica.

Yes. That was his actual title in the old days. When the rest of us were still learning what a “mouse” was, Admin was out there writing 80-column punch-card poetry in COBOL, shouting “SO SAY WE ALL” every time a batch job finally completed without abending. He didn’t debug—he prophesied. He didn’t refactor—he commanded the Cylons of the compiler to obey. There are still mainframe operators who wake up in cold sweats muttering “PERFORM UNTIL… PERFORM UNTIL…” because of him.

And now this same cosmic warlord is telling us to treat AI agents like “untrusted interns who need some oversight” and, crucially, not to fire the experienced security people just because ChatGPT can write a convincing phishing email.

I’m not saying Admin is wrong. He’s not. The post is actually pretty good. But I am saying it’s hilarious watching the ancient COBOL overlord who once made entire accounting systems tremble now looking at modern AI and going, “Whoa whoa whoa, maybe we shouldn’t give the robot the keys to the vault and the ability to wire money and root access just because it’s polite.”

So say we all, Admin.
So say we all.

Just… next time you post, maybe leave the punch cards at home. The galaxy has moved on.
